Justice for Sale
Over the past 4 weeks the American public has openly viewed a new trend, justice is for sale to the highest bidder. Specifically, what message is being delivered to the youth of the USA by the 30-90 day incarceration of professional athletes …by allowing them to ‘buy their way out of a judgement’ . The deaths of 2 people as a direct result of the actions of Donte Stallworth (Cleveland Brown football) and JR Smith(Denver Nuggetts basketball) appear to say that one can indeed place a price tag on someone’s life and the Judicial System is in full agreement. When the former, nameless olympic swimmer drove a car into a crowd of teenagers while intoxicated in Tampa, Florida several years ago, he was put in jail for an extended period of time…much more than 90 days. The only color that now matters in the courts is ‘green’, the color of money. Let’s see what happens to the former New York Giants football wide receiver in his gun case. Is the law and justice only to be applied to cases with the poor and middle class, and are ‘celebrities’ in another category and above the law ? Think about it.
